Sneak Peek At St. Croix Rods

Tonight in Orlando, Florida, fishing gear manufacturers from all over the world will unveil their new rods, reels, lures, electronics and apparel for 2013 at the annual International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST). But we got a sneak peek at St. Croix's totally re-engineered LegendXtreme casting and spinning rods, and had to pass it along to you—before the big show begins.
Details are still scarce, but we do know that the manufacturing process is unlike anything ever done before. In fact, the handle design is so unique, they have to be constructed inside a special "clean-room" St. Croix built within its main plant in Wisconsin. They also designed and built customized ovens just to ensure the fortified resins that bind the blanks are cured to perfection.
The 17 spinning (5 ft., 9 in. to 7 ft., 6 in.) and 12 casting (6 ft., 8 in. to 7 ft., 11 in.) rods also feature Fuji split reel seats and tangle-free guides, and are supposedly more sensitive and durable than anything that has come before. Though company reps were extremely tight-lipped about the rod series, one couldn't hold back. "These are the most technologically advanced rods we've ever built," he said. |
