Iaconelli's NEW Reel Weighs Mere Ounces
Abu Garcia is launching what's looking to be the best Revo yet—the
MGX
. It's early in the game, but after fishing pre-release samples, we can tell you this: It's unbelievably light (it actually weighs less than its box—we tested it) and geared so fast the freakin' thing practically smokes.
We've fished fast reels—6.3:1, 7:1 and even 7.3:1 gearings—but they seem to wind in slow motion when you give the 7.9:1
MGX
's crank a single turn and see about 31 inches of line climb up onto the spool.
We also struggle to backlash the thing, even when firing casts with flyweight baits, something Abu engineers would probably credit to the reel's Infinitely Variable Centrifugal Brake system. What does
MGX
stand for? Not sure, but we're assuming something to the effect of "not cheap," as you'll fork over $349.95 to own it when it hits stores in October.
At least your reel will be as light as your wallet.
