Oddball Baits That Catch Catfish

Besides being things you'd find at the corner drug store, what do a tube of Preparation H, a bar of Ivory Soap and a hunk of Bazooka bubble gum have in common? Believe it or not, they make great catfish bait, according to Keith "Catman" Sutton, a recognized authority on ol' whiskerface.
Sutton has chased catfish all over North America, and parts of South America, and has authored countless magazine articles and numbers of books on his favorite pursuit. Along the way he's documented catfish success with baits you'd never dream of—mulberries, persimmons, raisins, hickory smoked bacon, even a foul-smelling plant resin appropriately called "devil's dung."
Logically, most fruit baits work best during the time when the wild variety is ripening and dropping. But golden raisins are hot anytime water and air temperatures are at summer peak. The raisins swell up in the water, says Sutton, and emit a scent catfish can't resist.
