Biggest Eskimo Tarpon Ever Caught On Video!

The locals call them "sheefish," "Connies," "nelma," and "Eskimo tarpon." Although most commonly referred to as inconnu (French for "unknown" or "stranger"), we'll bet 9 out of 10 anglers have still never heard of them.

To quote North American Fisherman managing editor Ryan Gilligan: "They kind of look like a tarpon made babies with a whitefish."

And Ryan's spot-on.

Inconnu have a large, tarpon-like mouth and a protruding lower jaw, and are generally silver in color with a blue back. And they are whitefish ... but unlike those most of us are familiar with, these can reach 55-pounds, and bush stories tell of fish twice and even three times as big!

Inconnu are found scattered throughout the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska—as well as Siberia and the Caspian Sea basin—but have never attracted much attention from researchers or anglers.
