America's Most Dangerous Noodlin'
No doubt about it, catfish noodlin' is extreme. Who but pathologically obsessed fishermen would free-dive into murky depths reaching twenty feet and stick arms into submerged holes, using only hands and fingers as bait?
As a result of their pursuits, most hardcore noodlers carry battle scars, including lopped off or completely missing fingers. It's not that flathead catfish are that dangerous—it's the other critters, including 'gators, snakes, beavers, muskrats and snapping turtles found in the same holes catfish call home.
Now imagine a rogue breed of noodler, a fearless renegade who gropes through the muddy abyss specifically for these feared finger-eaters. Enter Kentucky's "Turtleman" a shirtless hero who's addicted to the rush of catching giant snappers with his bare hands.
But don't let appearances deceive you—the Turtleman is a deft master of self-promotion. He's appeared on CNN, sells "Snapper-Licious" t-shirts via his online store, shas TV deals in-the-works, and travels the country educating crowds. And "Kentucky's best kept secret" is quick to point out that he's the "Robin Hood" of snappers—he "doesn't kill, only catches," releasing the turtles in other areas where they're not unwanted. A must-see!
