Where Bass Are Spawning Now

Bass In some parts of the country anglers fish largemouth bass year-round, but even in southern waters fishermen look forward to the spawn with great anticipation. That's when the action really heats up.

Being in the right place at the right time is critical, so take a look at the Largemouth Spawning Map. It was developed by Mississippi State University fisheries biologist Dr. Hal Schramm and outlines typical spawning dates from South to North, though local weather and water conditions will determine exactly when the action starts in your home waters.

Wherever they swim, bass begin actively spawning when water temps climb into the low 60s, but you can find 'em even earlier than that in brushy coves and creek arms, or on shallow flats in natural lakes. And you'll typically find 'em in weedy or woody cover in shallow bays or along shorelines that are protected from the wind.
