Easiest Fishing Knot?
Easiest Fishing Knot
Chances are you already know how to tie the Palomar knot. After all, it's considered one of the strongest and easiest across all line classes.

But is the Palomar really that simple?

Truth is, over time and repetition we can develop bad habits we may not even notice—that is, until the pressure's on—kind of like bad free throw form (i.e. Wilt and Chuck Hayes.) And when it comes to fishing knots, the devil is very much in the details.

Bass pro Bobby Myers has noticed some bad form unnoticed by many of us, especially when we're using the Palomar with fluorocarbon line. He's quick to point out that after the line is doubled and brought around the bait you must keep the loop above the knot that is being formed, or you create a knot—especially with fluoro—that can cut into itself, compromising strength.

Doesn't take much imagination to realize the result—like lost lures and fish.

Our advice? Keep Bobby's pointers in mind the next time you tie what many consider the "easiest" knot in all of fishing.
